Regarding Bahaism [1] ideal for establishing the universal government investigated in various Baha’i sources, why have the Bahaism leaders prevented the Baha’is to meddle with policy severely? To answer this question, we will refer to Bahaism documents:
The 1st document:
The Baha’i teaching flower garden, p. 454:
“The extent of being or not being a Baha’i is that everyone who meddles with political affairs and speak or act out of his/her duty, he/she is not Baha’i; this reason is enough. It doesn’t need another reason. Now, if a person wants to negotiate about the political affairs in his/her house or others’ assembly, it will be better for him/her to cut with the faith and everybody knows he/she doesn’t belong to the faith.”
Regarding the reason for issuing the verdict for Baha’i prohibition in political affairs, Abdul Baha says: The Baha’is activities in political affairs causes them to be busy with political affairs instead of proselytizing for Bahaism and eventually Bahaism organization will be destroyed.
The 2nd document:
The Blessed Writings (1922-1948), p.32&33.
He has also said: “The lack of meddling with policy [2] is really important, today. Stressed by the Highest Pen and confirmed by God’s covenant government, all disciples must not speak about policy at all without any exception because it is invective and harmful for God’s faith and God’s guardians…
Meddling with policy by disciples causes those who don’t oppose God’s faith to oppose, too…”
Concerning the reason for Baha’is prohibition to meddle with policy, Shoghi believes that it is harmful and the political activity of the Baha’is causes those who don’t oppose of “Bahaism oppose it, too.
The 3rd document:
The Blessed writings (1922-1926), P.42:
“These days, the world affairs are fundamentally changed and preserving disciples depends on not meddling with policy, religious legitimate problems and various parties’ measures in this tumult and riot…
Total impartiality with the political parties must be and be expressed verbally and cordially and being benevolent with all human kinds, government and nation which is of the rudiments of the Baha’is must be proved verbally and practically…”
Explanation:
In this writing, Shoghi Effendi believes that not meddling with policy can prevent the Baha’is against the dangers which have been happened in quarrels among religions, nations and governments.
On page 121 of the Blessed Writings (1927-1939), Shogi Effendi believes that not meddling with policy will preserve the Baha’is against execution, exiling and other problems and dangers and subsequently it makes the Baha’is organization to be kept out of the danger. So, one of the reasons for Baha’is prohibition to meddle with political affairs is preserving the Baha’i organization against the probable political dangers.
The 4th document:
The guidance lights, p. 532:
If the Baha’is of the world are dependent on different groups or parties of communities or religious institutions or political parties, the unity of the community will be destroyed; because it is obvious that they will engage in principles or policies which are in contrast with our teachings and are mostly against another party in another corner of the world or against other race or religion. Consequently, all Baha’is of the world have been advised to quit their previous dependence and step membership in freemasonry and other hidden communities aside.”
Explanation:
Helen Hornby has written this text from Shoghi Effendi’s letter to a Baha’i person dated Feb. 17, 1956 A.D. in which Shoghi Effendi believes that the Baha’is mustn’t enter into various parties and groups because it will deface the Baha’i organization unity.
The 5th document:
The guidance light, p. 563.
“Concerning your question about policy, it is worthy to be noted that the Baha’is view must have two aspects: 1- Obeying the government of a country totally in which they are residing and 2- Not meddling with each kind of political positions and issues.”
Explanations:
Helen Hornby has mentioned that this document is the letter of Shoghi Effendi addressing national assembly of proselytizing for Central America dated July 3, 1948 A.D.
In this letter Shoghi Effendi has considered meddling with policy as creating disunity among Baha’i organization.
In this letter, Shoghi Effendi says: “The Baha’is must strengthen the Baha’i system and meddling with these affairs will damage the Baha’i system of government and Baha’i organization.
The 6th document:
The articles and epistles in variant issues, p.76 and 177.
“Let’s look at the action instead of a glance at theoretical discussion to become obvious that not meddling with policy is beneficial for the Baha’i community or not.
If the divine disciples were to meddle with the political affairs during these 150 years when the Baha’i faith has emerged, now there wouldn’t be any sign of it, at all.”
Explanation:
Ali Morad Davoudi has considered the reason for Babis and Azalis to be disappeared as meddling with political affairs and believed that Bahaism has avoided Babism mistake for its survival.
Conclusion:
As an organization, Bahaism has forbidden its member to meddle with political affairs in order to establish the universal Baha’i government by preserving its organization.
